Three Types of Street Hosts

Classic Street Host
This is all about music and party vibes! Create your own music stage for the street party and contribute with genres like rock, reggae, jazz, or electronic music—both live and DJ setups are welcome. Music stages must adhere to specific guidelines, including a maximum stage height of 30 cm and sound systems that comply with Copenhagen Municipality’s regulations for outdoor music events (e.g., max 80 dB sound pressure near residential areas).
Examples from previous years:
- A hip-hop stage organized by former folk high school friends.
- Old-school house music from a record store.
- Disco and Afrobeat stages by local organizers.
Apply to create your music stage for Distortion by selecting the “Classic Street Host” category in the application form.
ActionHygge Street Host
If party music isn’t your thing, you can organize activities focusing on community, art, and creativity. This is for those who want to create something unique and cozy—such as events centered around food, dance, art, kids, or debates.
Examples from previous years:
- Skateboarding competitions.
- Samba parades and street theater.
- Long-table dinners and dance contests.
We prioritize creating space and a relaxed atmosphere for ActionHygge activities, allowing them to stand out in the festive environment. Apply to host your event at Nørrebro or Refshaleøen. Some projects may even receive funding for expenses.
Pop-Up Street Host
Pop-up activities are short, mobile contributions that can appear in different locations. Perfect for small, simple ideas that require minimal space and equipment.
Examples from previous years:
- Samba orchestras and African dance circles.
- Street theater and makeup salons.
- Unamplified pop-up concerts.
These activities work particularly well in small streets or as recurring performances. Apply to be part of the pop-up program, and we’ll help create the right setting.
